Enjoy These Wonderful Day Trips

A wide variety of interesting and exciting activities are within a day’s drive of Monument RV Resort. We highly recommend these area day trips.

Wine Tasting
Colorado wines are beginning to make a name for themselves, and over 18 wineries are located in nearby Grand Valley. Whether you choose to tour by car, bicycle or guided limousine, you can enjoy cellar room tastings and a picnic lunch among the grape vines. Take home some of your favorite vintages as special reminders of a day spent in Colorado’s wine country.

Drive the Unaweep/Tabeguache Scenic and Historic Byway
Take a step into the past by driving over wind-swept mesas and through dramatic river canyons, past historic gold mining sites and cattle ranches. See the world-famous hanging flume and stop at the unique, small towns along the way. Take a side trip on a rugged jeep trail for even more adventure. Length: 133 miles, Driving time: 3 hours.

Grand Mesa
Grand Mesa is the largest flat-topped mountain in the world. It is covered in pines and stands of aspen that are brilliant in the Fall. At 10,000 feet, Grand Mesa is a year-round haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with boating or fishing on over 300 pristine lakes, horseback riding and hiking.

River Rafting
The Colorado River, Green, Dolores, Gunnison and Yampa - take your pick. From extreme whitewater to gentle floats.  Whatever matches your sense of adventure, you can find it here. And, the scenery can’t be beat. Several local companies offer guided or self-guided river trips.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
Prepare yourself for 2,000 foot tall, narrow canyon walls dropping almost vertically to the Gunnison River. The river drops an average of 43 feet per mile, making it one of the steepest mountain descents in North America. Hike, fish, rock climb, snowshoe, or just take a drive and enjoy the scenery.
